Breeds on Ogasawara Islands (noth-western Pacific); ranges throughout the north-western Pacific from Japanese waters to the equatorial region.

Food
Small fish, squid and planktonic crustaceans.

Subspecies
Bannerman's Shearwater (Puffinus bannermani), Persian Shearwater (Puffinus persicus) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) and Galapagos Shearwater (Puffinus subalaris) (SACC 2005) are lumped with Audubon's Shearwater (Puffinus lherminieri) following Brooke (2004).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Audubon's Shearwater (Puffinus lherminieri).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Tropical Shearwater (Puffinus bailloni).

No subspecies.
