Welcome to Birdpedia - The Birdwatchers Website
This is the access point to a variety of Bird Databases. Each database is country specific and
contains all species that are observable in that country, whether they are native, visitors or introduced.
Birdpedia has recently been Updated
The following are the two most important changes:
- A Single login - You can log in to each Country using the same login details. Previously you had to register within each Country. You can go to the country of your choice using one of the options below or Members can log in directly using the form in the right menu.
- All the Worlds Species are now visible - You can view all the worlds species from within any country (use the World checkbox to switch between your Country and World species).
This current version has been tested and appears to be working correctly. If you do notice any problems please notify me (use the 'Make a Comment' link at the bottom of most pages).

How can I access my Country of Interest?
Each country has its own country code (ISO - usually two (2) characters). For example, Australia is au, United Kingdom (Great Britain and Ireland) is uk and Galapagos is ecga.
If you know the code for your country of interest, enter it in the box provided at the top left. Alternatively, you
can select your country from the dropdown list, or, go to the map representing your region of the world and click
on the country (this option is still under development).

The Information in the Databases
Unlike most websites the information on these sites is maintained by people such as yourself. Each database starts
out as a basic list of species, with minimal information - common name, scientific name, and family.
From there it is up to you to update and expand on the data. However, not just anybody can contribute data.
If you would like to be able to update data or modify the factual content of the database please apply from
within the region you are interested in. Because this is essentially a peer maintained site we are always on the
lookout for enthusiatic and knowledgable people. Your application will be assessed and you will be informed of
our decision.
Countries for which Databases are available
The list of countries is slowly growing. The complete list can be found in the drop down box. At this time only Australia (our home base) has any significant data (if you would like to help develop one of the other countries let us know).
If you do not find your region of interest please let us know and we will create it.
Would you like to Contribute material?
We are always looking for material to include. If you would like to contribute articles, images, videos etc
please contact us. Please consult our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for details concerning what can be displayed and who owns what. You will find a link at the bottom of each page within the site.
Would you like to become an Administrator for one of the Sites?
We are still looking for people to oversee development of many of the sites. If you are interested please follow the instructions within the site of interest.
