Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 1,000 m, occasionally up to 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Brazil.

Eastern Brazil from central Bahia (one isolated record from extreme northern Bahia), southern Minas Gerais and Esp��rito Santo south to eastern S�o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Based on molecular-genetic studies this species forms a monophyletic clade with Seven-colored Tanager (Tangara fastuosa), Green-headed Tanager (Tangara seledon), Red-necked Tanager (Tangara cyanocephala) and Brassy-breasted Tanager (Tangara desmaresti). Described form Tangara gouldi appears to be a hybrid between present species and Brassy-breasted Tanager (Tangara desmaresti).
