Habitat
Breeds in low altitude tussock grassland. Winters mainly on ice-free shorelines.
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (B) (NB).

Subspecies
No subspecies.
May be closely related to, and possibly have evolved from, Correndera Pipit (Anthus correndera) and the two may belong to a clade that also includes Sprague's Pipit (Anthus spragueii), Short-billed Pipit (Anthus furcatus), Yellowish Pipit (Anthus lutescens), Hellmayr's Pipit (Anthus hellmayri) and Paramo Pipit (Anthus bogotensis).
