Subspecies
Has been thought to form a superspecies with White-headed Wren (Campylorhynchus albobrunneus), Fasciated Wren (Campylorhynchus fasciatus) and Band-backed Wren (Campylorhynchus zonatus).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
pardus Sclater, PL, 1858 - Caribbean coast of Colombia (Magdalena and Bolívar south to c. 8ºN).
brevipennis Lawrence, 1866 - Northern Venezuela (Yaracuy east to Miranda, south to Guárico).
nuchalis Cabanis, 1847 - Central and eastern Venezuela (Barinas east to western Sucre and Delta Amacuro, south to Apure and northern Bolívar).
