Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical lowland dry and moist shrubland, mangroves, heavily degraded former forest. From sea-level - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Indonesia (B), Timor-Leste (B) (NB).

Wetar and Timor (including Jaco and Semau), in eastern Lesser Sundas.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

A member of a species group that includes also Bare-throated Whistler (Pachycephala nudigula), Vogelkop Whistler (Pachycephala meyeri), Sclater's Whistler (Pachycephala soror), Lorentz's Whistler (Pachycephala lorentzi), Regent Whistler (Pachycephala schlegelii), Guadalcanal Hooded Whistler (Pachycephala implicata), Golden Whistler (Pachycephala pectoralis), New Caledonian Whistler (Pachycephala caledonica), Tongan Whistler (Pachycephala jacquinoti), Samoan Whistler (Pachycephala flavifrons), Mangrove Golden Whistler (Pachycephala melanura) and Golden-backed Whistler (Pachycephala aurea).

Proposed subspecies wetterensis (from Wetar) regarded as insufficiently differentiated from populations elsewhere in range to warrant recognition.
