Subspecies
African Olive-pigeon (Columba arquatrix), Cameroon Olive-pigeon (Columba sjostedti) and Sao Tome Olive-pigeon (Columba thomensis) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include sjostedti and thomensis as subspecies of African Olive-pigeon (Columba arquatrix).
Similar Species
Sao Tome Bronze-naped Pigeon (Columba malherbii) which is smaller and paler with metallic patches on neck and nape.
