Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From 1,000 - 2,500 m.
Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Sâo Tomé e Principe.

Obudu and Mambilla Plateaux in eastern Nigeria, and Cameroon highlands from Mt Cameroon north-east to Mt Oku (Kilum); also Bioko.

Subspecies
African Olive-pigeon (Columba arquatrix), Cameroon Olive-pigeon (Columba sjostedti) and Sao Tome Olive-pigeon (Columba thomensis) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include sjostedti and thomensis as subspecies of African Olive-pigeon (Columba arquatrix).
Forms a superspecies with African Olive-pigeon (Columba arquatrix), Sao Tome Olive-pigeon (Columba thomensis) and Comoro Olive-pigeon (Columba pollenii), and all are sometimes considered conspecific. Asiatic Speckled Woodpigeon (Columba hodgsonii) may also belong within this superspecies.
