Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Coconut Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
septentrionalis Robinson, 1900 - Cape York Pen. (north-eastern Australia).
moluccanus (Gmelin, JF, 1788) - Torres Strait islands, eastern and south-eastern Australia and Tasmania. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Coconut Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus).
