Torres Strait islands, eastern and south-eastern Australia and Tasmania.

Voice
Rolling musical screech, deeper than Musk Lorikeet (Glossopsitta concinna). Harsh screeches, raucous chatterings.

Nest
In a hole of a tree.

Eggs (Guide)
Clutch Size: 2 - 3, 2
Color: white
Dimensions: 27 - 28 x 22 - 23 mm (oval)
Incubation: 25 - 26 days by female

Young
Fledge in about 56 days. Fed by both parents.

Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Coconut Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • septentrionalis Robinson, 1900   -  Cape York Pen. (north-eastern Australia).
  • moluccanus (Gmelin, JF, 1788)   -  Torres Strait islands, eastern and south-eastern Australia and Tasmania. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Coconut Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus).
