Habitat
Understorey and middle storey forest edges in "terra firme" forest (with no flooding), transitional forest and "várzea" (seasonally flooded forest), as well as some tall secondary woodland. From sea-level - 1,400 m.

Range (Guide)
Bolivia (B) (NB), Brazil (B) (NB), Peru (B) (NB).

Andean foothills in east-central Peru (Huánuco south to Cuzco).

Subspecies
Hypocnemis cantator (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993; Stotz et al. 1996) has been split into Guianan Antwarbler (Hypocnemis cantator), Imeri Antwarbler (Hypocnemis flavescens), Peruvian Antwarbler (Hypocnemis peruviana), Yellow-breasted Antwarbler (Hypocnemis subflava), Rondonia Antwarbler (Hypocnemis ochrogyna) and Spix's Antwarbler (Hypocnemis striata) following SACC (2007).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Guianan Antwarbler (Hypocnemis cantator).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • collinsi Cherrie, 1916   -  Southern Peru (south-eastern Ucayali, eastern Cuzco, Madre de Dios, Puno), extreme south-western Amazonian Brazil (Acre) and west-central Bolivia (Pando, La Paz, western Beni, Cochabamba).
  • subflava Cabanis, 1873   -  Andean foothills in east-central Peru (Huánuco south to Cuzco). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Yellow-breasted Antwarbler (Hypocnemis subflava).
