Subspecies
Micromacronus leytensis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Visayan Miniature Babbler (Micromacronus leytensis) and Mindanao Miniature Babbler (Micromacronus sordidus) following Collar (2006).

Formerly treated as conspecific with Visayan Miniature Babbler (Micromacronus leytensis).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Female Lovely Sunbird (Aethopyga shelleyi) which is tiny but has a longer, slightly decurved bill and lacks erectile feathers, and at higher altitudes with Mountain Warbler (Phylloscopus trivirgatus) which is slightly larger and lacks the erectile feathers.
