Seicercus burkii (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Green-crowned Warbler (Phylloscopus burkii), Bianchi's Warbler (Phylloscopus valentini), Whistler's Warbler (Phylloscopus whistleri), Alstrom's Warbler (Phylloscopus soror) and Grey-crowned Warbler (Phylloscopus tephrocephalus) following Alström and Olsson (1999) and Martens's Warbler (Phylloscopus omeiensis) following Martens et al. (1999). Use of the common name 'Alström's Warbler', follows Reindt (2006).
Recently described species, formerly treated as part of Green-crowned Warbler (Phylloscopus burkii), but differing in morphology, vocalizations and mitochondrial DNA. Almost simultaneously, likewise separated as a distinct species by other workers using the name "Seicercus latouchei". That name is, however, not applicable to populations of present species, but rather to populations clearly belonging within Bianchi's Warbler (Phylloscopus valentini).
