Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,000 - 1,400 m.

Papua New Guinea (B) (NB).

Bougainville I (northern Solomon Is).

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Probably habitat loss through clearance for agriculture and predation by introduced black rats Rattus rattus and feral cats are the main threats.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Only very recently described. Probably closest to Philippine Bush-Warbler (Horornis seebohmi), Palau Bush-Warbler (Horornis annae), Shade Bush-Warbler (Horornis parens) and Fiji Bush-Warbler (Horornis ruficapilla). Molecular data suggest that all may have evolved from a common ancestor.
