Voice
A long, sometimes quavering whistle followed by a quick phrase: 'feee-e-e-e-fiddle-dee-dee'. The long whistle varies in pitch from song to song, but the quick phrase is more or less stereotyped. May be uttered in duet, with one bird uttering the whistle and the other answering with the second part of the song.

Subspecies
Has sometimes been placed in a separate genus, Vitia, but on basis of voice, egg colour and morphology now included within present genus. Together with Palau Bush-Warbler (Horornis annae) and Shade Bush-Warbler (Horornis parens) (possibly also Tanimbar Bush-Warbler (Horornis carolinae)) probably most closely related to Japanese Bush-Warbler (Horornis diphone). These species appear to be relicts of a single, formerly more widespread species in Indo-Pacific region.
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
castaneoptera (Ramsay, 1876) - Vanua Levu, in northern Fiji.
