Subspecies
No subspecies.

Zosterops atrifrons (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Black-crowned White-eye (Zosterops atrifrons), Sangihe White-eye (Zosterops nehrkorni) and Seram White-eye (Zosterops stalkeri) following Rasmussen et al. (2000b).

Forms a superspecies with Cream-throated White-eye (Zosterops atriceps), Black-crowned White-eye (Zosterops atrifrons), Togian White-eye (Zosterops somadikartai), Sangihe White-eye (Zosterops nehrkorni), Green-fronted White-eye (Zosterops minor), Tagula White-eye (Zosterops meeki) and Bismarck White-eye (Zosterops hypoxanthus). In past, often considered conspecific with Black-crowned White-eye (Zosterops atrifrons), but differs from that species and from other members of superspecies in bill morphology, plumage and voice.
