Subspecies
No subspecies.
African Yellow White-eye (Zosterops senegalensis) and Pemba White-eye (Zosterops vaughani) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include vaughani as a subspecies of African Yellow White-eye (Zosterops senegalensis).
Forms a superspecies with African Yellow White-eye (Zosterops senegalensis) and sometimes regarded as conspecific, but differs in appearance and voice. Both sometimes suggested as being part of a larger superspecies that includes also Abyssinian White-eye (Zosterops abyssinicus), Orange River White-eye (Zosterops pallidus) and Ethiopian White-eye (Zosterops poliogastrus).
