Subspecies
Certhia discolor (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Sikkim Treecreeper (Certhia discolor) and Manipur Treecreeper (Certhia manipurensis) following Tietze et al. (2006).
Formerly treated as conspecific with Sikkim Treecreeper (Certhia discolor), but now separated on basis of vocal and genetic evidence. Birds from north-eastern India (Nagaland, western Manipur) sometimes placed with this species, but plumage details indicate clear affiliation with Sikkim Treecreeper (Certhia discolor). Birds from south-western Myanmar (Arakan Yomas) tentatively included in nominate subspecies, but racial identity requires examination.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
manipurensis Hume, 1881 - North-eastern India (southern Manipur, eastern Mizoram) and western Myanmar (Chin Hills, Arakan Yomas).
shanensis Baker, ECS, 1930 - North-eastern and eastern Myanmar (south to the Karenni), southern China (Yunnan from Gaoligong Shan south to Tengchong), north-western Thailand and north-western Vietnam (Fansipan massif, in western Tonkin).
