Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland, dry shrubland, dry forest, urban areas. From 200 - 2,200 m.
Botswana, South Africa.
South-eastern Botswana, central South Africa (eastern from eastern Northern Cape) and Swaziland.

Voice
A thin 'tseeep'. Song consists of whistled phrases and is like that of other rock-thrushes. Mimics other birds calls.
Subspecies
No subspecies.
Not recognised by BirdLife International. Short-toed Rock-Thrush (Monticola brevipes) and Transvaal Rock-Thrush (Monticola pretoriae) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into Monticola brevipes following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Short-toed Rock-Thrush (Monticola brevipes).
