Voice
Song is a loud, sustained, sprightly, thrust-like series of short phrases, each consisting of rich slurred whistles and dry buzzy notes, rising and falling several times. Calls reportedly include loud chattering and high whistle.

Brachypteryx major (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been moved into the genus Myiomela and split into Nilgiri Blue Robin (Myiomela major) and White-bellied Blue Robin (Myiomela albiventris) following Rasmussen and Anderton (2005).
Until recently considered a member of genus Brachypteryx and treated as conspecific with Nilgiri Blue Robin (Myiomela major).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
albiventris (Blanford, 1867) - Peninsular India (south-western Madras to Kerala).
ashambuensis Robin et al., 2017 - Southernmost western Ghats (Ashambu Hills), southern India.
Similar Species
Nilgiri Blue Robin (Myiomela major) has rufous flanks and undertail coverts, and dull bluish brow.
