Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,000 - 1,500 m.

India (B) (NB).

Southern Karnataka and Nilgiri Hills, in southern India.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Forest loss and fragmentation through clearing is the main threat.

Voice
Song is a short jumble of shrill whistles and harsh notes, combining whistled calls and twangy buzzes, sometimes with mimicry. Calls include a strained, indrawn whistle and harsher rattles.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Brachypteryx major (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been moved into the genus Myiomela and split into Nilgiri Blue Robin (Myiomela major) and White-bellied Blue Robin (Myiomela albiventris) following Rasmussen and Anderton (2005).

Until recently considered a member of genus Brachypteryx and treated as conspecific with White-bellied Blue Robin (Myiomela albiventris).

Similar Species
White-bellied Blue Robin (Myiomela albiventris) has dark slaty-blue flanks and white undertail coverts with white supercilium.
