Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical montane moist forest, mangroves, heavily degraded former forest, rural gardens.

Range (Guide)
Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Subspecies
Closely related to and often considered to form a superspecies with Leaden Flycatcher (Myiagra rubecula), Makira Flycatcher (Myiagra cervinicauda), Melanesian Flycatcher (Myiagra caledonica), Vanikoro Flycatcher (Myiagra vanikorensis) and Samoan Flycatcher (Myiagra albiventris).

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

  • cinerea (Mathews, 1928)   -  Buka I and Bougainville I.
  • ferrocyanea Ramsay, 1879   -  Choiseul, Isabel and Guadalcanal, in Solomon Islands.
  • feminina Rothschild & Hartert, 1901   -  New Georgia Is (western Solomons).
  • malaitae Mayr, 1931   -  Malaita (eastern Solomons).
