Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry forest. From sea-level - 700 m.
Mexico.
Pacific coastal lowlands of north-western Mexico from southern Sonora (Alamos) south to northern Nayarit (south to Sauta).

Subspecies

Along with Bushy-crested Jay (Cyanocorax melanocyaneus ), San Blas Jay (Cyanocorax sanblasianus ) and Yucatan Jay (Cyanocorax yucatanicus ) were formerly placed together in a separate genus, Cissilopha (the black-and-blue jays of Middle America).
