Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, heavily degraded former forest, rural gardens, plantations.

Solomon Islands (B).

San Cristobal, Santa Ana and Santa Catalina, probably also Ugi, in E Solomon Is.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with Red-capped Myzomela (Myzomela lafargei), Black-headed Myzomela (Myzomela melanocephala), Crimson-rumped Myzomela (Myzomela eichhorni), Malaita Myzomela (Myzomela malaitae) and Bismarck Black Myzomela (Myzomela pammelaena), and formerly suggested that all may be conspecific. This group possibly closely related to the Cardinal Myzomela (Myzomela cardinalis) superspecies. Formerly considered conspecific with Papuan Black Myzomela (Myzomela nigrita). Reported as hybridizing with Cardinal Myzomela (Myzomela cardinalis) on San Cristobal.
