Habitat
Subtropical and tropical Swamp forest. From sea-level - 700 m.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru.
Central and western Amazon Basin in southern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, Brazil (east to lower R Negro and lower R Madeira) and northern Bolivia.

Subspecies
May form a superspecies with Lovely Cotinga (Cotinga amabilis ), Turquoise Cotinga (Cotinga ridgwayi ), Blue Cotinga (Cotinga nattererii ), Purple-breasted Cotinga (Cotinga cotinga ) and Banded Cotinga (Cotinga maculata ), and all sometimes treated as conspecific.
