Montane Atlantic forest, perhaps favouring taller forests and mature secondary habitats. From 800 - 1,200 m.

Brazil (B).

Southern Bahia, in eastern Brazil.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation through clearance for pastureland and cultivation is the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Recently described species, apparently belonging to a superspecies that also contains Mottle-cheeked Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes ventralis), Restinga Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes kronei), Yellow-green Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes flavovirens) and Olive-green Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes virescens). Seems to be closest to first two of those.

Similar Species
Resembles allopatric Mottle-cheeked Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes ventralis) and Restinga Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes kronei).
