Mariana Is on Asuncion, Pagan, Alamagan, Saipan, Tinian, Agiguan, Rota and Guam; also Yap I in Caroline Is.

Habits
Secretive. Less terrestrial than other ground-doves.

Fruits, seeds and flowers.
Voice
A very deep moan, given at several-second intervals. Swells in the middle: 'ooOOOoo'. Ventriloquial.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with White-breasted Ground-dove (Alopecoenas jobiensis), Caroline Ground-dove (Alopecoenas kubaryi) and Polynesian Ground-dove (Alopecoenas erythropterus). This group also has somewhat more distant affinities with Shy Ground-dove (Alopecoenas stairi), Santa Cruz Ground-dove (Alopecoenas sanctaecrucis) and Thick-billed Ground-dove (Alopecoenas salamonis). In past, Caroline Ground-dove (Alopecoenas kubaryi) was listed as subspecies of White-throated Ground-dove (Alopecoenas xanthonurus).
