Santa Cruz Is (Tinakula and Utupua) and Vanuatu (Espiritu Santo). Possibly extinct on Utupua.

Status EN
Predation by rats, cats, dogs and pigs. Cyclones and volcanic eruptions may be a risk. In some locations forest is being extensively cleared and degraded. Hunting may also be a factor.

Voice
A low, moderately loud 'woot', repeated monotonously and slowly accelerating.
Similar Species
Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps indica) which has green on upperparts, two pale bars on lower mantle and red bill.
