Habitat
Forests, woodlands. Large trees in open country, timbered watercourses, shelterbelts and roadside trees.

Australia (B).

Eastern and south-eastern Australia; also reported to occur in Tasmania.
 
Eastern Australia, from near Cairns, Qld south to Victoria and west to about Adelaide, SA. Vagrant to Tasmainia.
 
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status LC
Probably secure.

Food
Nectar, pollen, native and cultivated fruits and grain.

Voice
A high-pitched, short wheezing screech, given constantly, in contact in flight. Constant chattering while feeding.

Nest
In a hole of a tree, usually very high up.

Eggs (Guide)
3 - 5; white; rounded; about 20 x 17 mm. Incubation: about 22 days; by female.

Young
Leave the nest in about 5 - 6 weeks and within a further two or three weeks are independent of their parents.

Subspecies
Forms a parapatric species pair with Purple-crowned Lorikeet (Glossopsitta porphyrocephala).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Musk Lorikeet (Glossopsitta concinna), which is larger and has red cheek, Purple-crowned Lorikeet (Glossopsitta porphyrocephala), which has red underwings and less red on face, Double-eyed Fig-Parrot (Cyclopsitta diophthalma), which has a robust, pale grey, bill and blue in the wings.
