Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Black Nunbird (Monasa atra) and White-fronted Nunbird (Monasa morphoeus).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

nigrifrons (Spix, 1824) - South-eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, and much of Brazil (eastern, north of Amazon, to R Negro and, south of Amazon, to Par� and Alagoas and south to eastern Mato Grosso do Sul and western S�o Paulo).
canescens Todd, 1937 - Eastern Bolivia.
