Nest
In a hole excavated in an arboreal termites nest or a rotting tree-trunk.
laetus (Robinson and Kloss, 1918) - South-western Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia; probably also extreme southern Myanmar.
chrysopogon (Temminck, 1824) - Sumatra.
chrysopsis (Goffin, 1863) - Borneo. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Gold-faced Barbet (Psilopogon chrysopsis).
Similar Species
Red-crowned Barbet (Psilopogon rafflesii) and Red-throated Barbet (Psilopogon mystacophanos) both of which are smaller and lack a large yellow malar area.
