Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 1,400 m.
Cambodia, China (mainland), Laos (B), Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam.

Subspecies
Green-legged Partridge (Arborophila chloropus) and Annam Partridge (Arborophila merlini) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have recently been lumped into Arborophila chloropus (1994).
Probably forms superspecies with Green-legged Partridge (Arborophila chloropus) and Chestnut-necklaced Partridge (Arborophila charltonii). Has been considered a subspecies of Chestnut-necklaced Partridge (Arborophila charltonii).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Green-legged Partridge (Arborophila chloropus).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- merlini (Delacour & Jabouille, 1924) - Interior of central Vietnam. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Green-legged Partridge (Arborophila chloropus).
- vivida (Delacour, 1926) - Coastal hills of central Vietnam. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Green-legged Partridge (Arborophila chloropus).
