North-central Brazil south of Amazon, between R Madeira and R Tapajós, south to Rondônia, Bolivia (eastern Beni, north-eastern Santa Cruz), thence east to central Mato Grosso (R Paraguay drainage, and eastern almost to R Xingu). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Eastern Red-necked Aracari (Pteroglossus bitorquatus).
