Breeds central and southern Peru and central and eastern Brazil south to eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina (south to San Luis, La Rioja, Córdoba, La Pampa and northern Buenos Aires) and Uruguay; southern populations migrate north. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Northern Streaked Flycatcher (Myiodynastes maculatus).
