Subspecies

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
castaneigularis Layard, 1876 - Vanua Levu (except Natewa Peninsula), in northern Fiji. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Azure-crested Flycatcher (Myiagra azureocapilla).
whitneyi Mayr, 1933 - Viti Levu, in western Fiji. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Azure-crested Flycatcher (Myiagra azureocapilla).
