Usually solitary, in pairs or small family groups that frequently join mixed species feeding flocks.

Voice
A high-pitched buzzy 'zreet' and a variety of cat-like squeaks. Song is a high-pitched, shrill, whistled 'zreeee-zreeee', usually double but sometimes in groups of 4 notes.

Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
whitneyi Layard, 1875 - Viti Levu, in western Fiji. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Chestnut-throated Flycatcher (Myiagra castaneigularis).
castaneigularis E. L. Layard, 1876 - Vanua Levu (except Natewa Peninsula), in northern Fiji. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Chestnut-throated Flycatcher (Myiagra castaneigularis).
azureocapilla E. L. Layard, 1875 - Taveuni (northern Fiji).
