Central and eastern China from southern Gansu east to western Shanghai, north-western Fujian and northern Guangdong, and northern and eastern Sichuan south to southern and south-eastern Yunnan and Guizhou; also, apparently disjunctly, in north-western and west-central Shanxi. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Western Moustached Laughingthrush (Garrulax cineraceus).
