Northern Colombia (middle Magdalena Valley south to Santander, also Norte de Santander) and north-western Venezuela (Maracaibo Basin in Zulia and northern Mérida). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Western Barred Woodcreeper (Dendrocolaptes sanctithomae).
