Central-western Australia, from southern Pilbara and Lower Murchison Rivers, WA north to southern rim of the Great sandy and Gibson Deserts, WA, east to south-western centralian ranges, NT, and south to northern rim of the Great Victorian Desert and northern Goldfields Region, WA. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Chestnut-breasted Quail-thrush (Cinclosoma castaneothorax).
