Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 850 m.
Anguilla, Antigua And Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada (B), Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, St Kitts And Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Burnished-buff Tanager (Tangara cayana), Green-capped Tanager (Tangara meyerdeschauenseei), Black-backed Tanager (Tangara peruviana), Chestnut-backed Tanager (Tangara preciosa) and Scrub Tanager (Tangara vitriolina).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- versicolor (Lawrence, 1878) - St Vincent, in southern Lesser Antilles. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, St Vincent Tanager (Tangara versicolor).
- cucullata (Swainson, 1834) - Grenada, in southern Lesser Antilles.
