Habitat
Dense understorey in the interior or edge of undisturbed subtropical forest and natural clearings. From 1,400 - 2,100 m, occasionally 1,200 - 2,440 m.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Affinities within genus uncertain. Has been suggested that it is close to White-rimmed Warbler (Myiothlypis leucoblephara) but they are quite different in morphology, behaviour and habitat.
Similar Species
Sympatric Basileuterus warblers have striped heads that do not contrast with upperparts.
