Subspecies
Often placed together with Flavescent Warbler (Myiothlypis flaveola), White-striped Warbler (Myiothlypis leucophrys), Buff-rumped Warbler (Myiothlypis fulvicauda) and Southern Riverbank Warbler (Myiothlypis rivularis) in a separate genus, Phaeothlypis. Along with White-striped Warbler (Myiothlypis leucophrys) appear to bridge the gap between Flavescent Warbler (Myiothlypis flaveola) and the "classic" Phaeothlypis superspecies (fulvicauda and rivularis).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

leucoblepharus (Vieillot, 1817) - South-eastern Brazil (southern from S�o Paulo and southern Minas Gerais), southern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina.
lemurum (Olson, 1975) - Uruguay.
