Subspecies
No subspecies.

Geographically isolated and phenotypically quite distinct. Often regarded as closest to the clade formed by Spectacled Whitestart (Myioborus melanocephalus), Yellow-fronted Whitestart (Myioborus ornatus) and White-fronted Whitestart (Myioborus albifrons). However, this is not supported by recent phylogenetic study, which suggests that it may be closer to the Tepui Whitestart (Myioborus castaneocapilla) superspecies.
