Subspecies
No subspecies.
Forms a monophyletic clade with Spectacled Whitestart (Myioborus melanocephalus) and Yellow-fronted Whitestart (Myioborus ornatus). Although range is virtually continuous with that of Yellow-fronted Whitestart (Myioborus ornatus), the two are separated by Tachira Valley and contact therefore unlikely. No hybrid or intermediate individuals have been found.
