Probably forms superspecies with Common Redpoll (Acanthis flammea) and Hoary Redpoll (Carduelis hornemanni). Has hybridized with Common Redpoll (Acanthis flammea) and Common Linnet (Linaria cannabina). Birds from Argyll, in south-western Scotland, described as subspecies disruptis have difference considered within range of species.
