Subspecies
Abyssinian Citril (Crithagra citrinelloides), Yellow-browed Citril (Crithagra frontalis) and East African Citril (Crithagra hyposticta) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include frontalis and hypostictus as subspecies of Abyssinian Citril (Crithagra citrinelloides).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Abyssinian Citril (Crithagra citrinelloides).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
brittoni (Traylor, 1970) - South-eastern Sudan and extreme western Kenya. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Abyssinian Citril (Crithagra citrinelloides).
