Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest, lowland dry grassland, arable land, plantations.

Range (Guide)

Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Togo.

Unknown to Senegal.

Guinea-Bissau, southern Mali, Guinea, northern Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, western and central Cameroon, southern Chad, Central African Republic, southern Sudan, north-eastern and western DRCongo (Uele, Equateur, Bandundu), and eastern PRCongo (N'gab�).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Vidua funerea (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Dusky Indigobird (Vidua funerea) and Quailfinch Indigobird (Vidua nigeriae) following Payne and Payne (1994), and Dusky Indigobird (Vidua funerea) and Cameroon Indigobird (Vidua camerunensis) following Payne (2004).

Formerly considered a subspecies of Village Indigobird (Vidua chalybeata). Often treated as conspecific with Wilson's Indigobird (Vidua wilsoni), Quailfinch Indigobird (Vidua nigeriae), Barka Indigobird (Vidua larvaticola) and sometimes also with Dusky Indigobird (Vidua funerea).
