Has been thought to form a superspecies with Red-headed Fody (Foudia eminentissima) and Forest Fody (Foudia omissa).
Similar Species
Non-breeding male, female and juvenile separated from Red Fody (Foudia madagascariensis) by darker, less streaked plumage, plumper body and relatively shorter tail.
