Subspecies
No subspecies.

Mirafra assamica (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Bengal Bushlark (Mirafra assamica), Jerdon's Bushlark (Mirafra affinis), Burmese Bushlark (Mirafra microptera) and Indochinese Bushlark (Mirafra erythrocephala) following Alstr�m (1998).

Relationship with African congeners unknown. Formerly treated as conspecific with Bengal Bushlark (Mirafra assamica), but pronounced differences in, especially, vocalizations, song flight, other behaviour, habitat choice, and cytochrome b gene sequences (13�2%); equally large genetic (respectively, 15�1% and 11�7%) and vocal differences from Jerdon's Bushlark (Mirafra affinis) and Indochinese Bushlark (Mirafra erythrocephala), both of which were also previously considered conspecific with Bengal Bushlark (Mirafra assamica).
