Habitat
Lower storey of montane forest, recently degraded forest, secondary forest and dense bushes at the forest edge and in forest opened up for agriculture. From 950 - 1,600 m, chiefly occurring between 1,050 - 1,400 m.

Philippines (B) (NB).

Negros, in west-central Philippine Is.

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation, especially from slash-and-burn farming, is the main threat.

Voice
Rather thin, high-pitched contact call notes consisting of 'tsip-tsip-tsip', often in trills.

Subspecies
Genus usually merged into Stachyris. May form a superspecies with Luzon Striped Babbler (Zosterornis striatus), Panay Striped Babbler (Zosterornis latistriatus) and Palawan Striped Babbler (Zosterornis hypogrammicus) and arguably conspecific with Panay Striped Babbler (Zosterornis latistriatus), but vocally distinct.

No subspecies.
