Subspecies
No subspecies.
Traditionally considered related to Neomixis, but genetic evidence suggests that it may be part of a Malagasy radiation together with sylviid genera Cryptosylvicola, Oxylabes, Crossleyia and Thamnornis and pycnonotid Bernieria. Further study is required.
Similar Species
Differs from Spectacled Tetraka (Xanthomixis zosterops) and Grey-crowned Tetraka (Xanthomixis cinereiceps) by combination of grey ear-coverts, solid greyish bill, yellow throat and small size. Unlikely to be confused with jeries Neomixis owing to understorey habits, but grey ear-coverts are characteristic.
